The Essence of CarnivalRead more about the history of Carnival to get a more rounded look at these festivities. Here are a couple of excerpts:
"...The Caribbean Carnival...is a celebration of the end of slavery as well as an affirmation of survival.
The four elements of Carnival are song, music, costume and dance, which translate as calypso/soca, steelpan, mas (masquerade) and 'wine' (dance)...."

Street ParadeThe street parade starts at 4:00 PM in the cooler afternoon time.
Celebration in the ParkMarketplace starts at 5:00 PM and ends at 10:30PM. No coolers allowed. Blankets, chairs, tents, etc. okay. Tickets, $10.00, Children under 12 FREE.
